Job Description:

The Flight Software System Developer Chief Level position will be working under the SES III contract. The position is located at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD and supports the build of Bundle Protocol compliant flight DTN node Software and sustain compliant BPN-GND Software. Contractor shall also provide Systems Engineering support to work development team and standards bodies to build the flight DTN node.

Primary Duties:

The candidate shall provide Software Engineering support to develop cFS Bundle Protocol App (cFS BPapp) and Bundle Protocol Library (BPlib) prototype and operational software, compliant with Bundle Protocol version 7 (BPv7). Software development includes software design, code, unit-test, functional testing, integration test support, build and system testing, and software documentation.

  • Provide Software Engineering support to sustain Bundle Protocol Node - Ground (BPN-GND), compliant with Bundle Protocol version 6 (BPv6).
  • Support systems engineering efforts including Operational Concept development, requirements analysis and definition, and Interface Control Documents development.
  • Provide stakeholder and customer support. This includes preparing presentation material, training material, answering queries, and troubleshooting issues. Support demos and presentations, as identified by Product Development Lead (PDL).
  • The contractor shall support DTN and stakeholder systems engineering reviews.

Requirements:

  • 20 years SW Development experience
  • Experience with C/C++, Java, XML, JSON, Web service interfaces
  • Extensive experience with software development process and lifecycle. Experience with gathering/defining requirements, design, development, integration, and test
  • Proficient knowledge of JIRA, GitLab
  • Proficient knowledge of Linux operating systems, i.e., RedHat, Ubuntu, CentOS
  • Proficient with an integrated development environment (IDE) such as Eclipse or NetBeans
  • Strong knowledge and experience with communication networks
  • Knowledge of CCSDS BP specification, CCSDS File Delivery Protocol (CFDP), and Interplanetary Overlay Network (ION)
  • Experience with IP routing and related protocols is a plus

Familiarity with:

  • NASA SW Engineering Requirements
  • NASA Space Flight Program and Project Management Requirements
  • Experience with Graphical User Interface design and implementation
  • Knowledge of shell scripting languages
  • Knowledge of Perl helpful but not required
  • Knowledge of RFC 9171

Education/Certification: BS, Computer Science, Computer Architecture or related Engineering disciplines

Security Clearance and other Requirements:

Individual must meet government NAC and citizenship/ permanent residency requirements for access to NASA GSFC. Extensive background investigation will be performed as a requirement of the job.
